TARGET CARE & SAFETY

Take care of your gear. Shoot safe. Keep the fun going.

Our targets are built to bring more fun to the range, and a little upkeep goes a long way toward keeping them in good shape. Steel is tough, but it isn't rustproof. Follow these tips to help your Slug Butter gear last longer.

SHOOTING SAFETY

Inspect before every use.

Check your target, brackets, fasteners, and other components before shooting. Look for cracks, severe dents, bending, loose connections, damaged mounting points, or other signs of wear. If something looks damaged or doesn't seem right, stop using it until the issue is resolved.

Use the recommended ammunition.

Slug Butter Range Games are designed for .22 caliber firearms. Use the ammunition and firearm types specified for your particular product. Check the product listing and included instructions before use.

Keep a safe shooting distance.

Always follow the minimum distance specified for your particular target. Steel targets can send bullets, fragments, or other debris back toward the shooter, even when used properly. Never shoot steel from closer than the recommended distance.

•Set up a safe shooting area.

•Place your target in a stable, secure position according to its setup instructions.

•Use an appropriate backstop and ensure the area beyond the target is safe.

•Keep spectators and bystanders at a safe distance.

•Wear appropriate eye and hearing protection.

•Never shoot at a target that is damaged, improperly mounted, or being handled by someone.

When in doubt, stop shooting. A quick inspection and a little caution help keep range time fun for everyone.

KEEP IT CLEAN. KEEP IT DRY.

Steel can rust. Our targets are painted to help protect the steel, but the coating will wear over time with use. A little maintenance helps keep rust at bay and extends the life of your gear.

AFTER EACH RANGE SESSION

1. Wipe it down. Remove moisture, dirt, and debris with a clean cloth.

2. Let it dry completely. Pay special attention to seams, holes, joints, and other places where moisture can collect.

3. Check the paint. Look for chipped, scratched, or worn areas where bare steel is exposed.

4. Store it indoors. Keep your target and brackets in a dry place when you're not using them.

If your gear gets wet, dry it off as soon as possible. Don't leave it sitting outside overnight or exposed to rain and snow.

TOUCHING UP THE PAINT

We use Rust-Oleum indoor/outdoor spray paint in Real Orange on our targets. You can find Rust-Oleum spray paint at Walmart and many hardware stores.

When the paint starts to wear:

1. Make sure the target is completely dry and cool.

2. Remove loose paint and surface rust with a wire brush or sandpaper.

3. Clean away dust and debris.

4. Apply touch-up paint according to the paint manufacturer's instructions.

5. Allow the paint to dry fully before storing or handling the target.

Always spray paint outdoors or in a well-ventilated area, away from flames and ignition sources. Follow all safety instructions on the paint can.

A fresh coat helps protect your target. Touch up worn areas before rust has a chance to spread.

DON'T FORGET THE BRACKETS

Your brackets need a little care, too! Our brackets are 3D printed and use magnets, so keeping them clean, dry, and properly stored will help them last longer.

•Keep them dry. Wipe away moisture after use and store your brackets indoors when you're done.

•Avoid excessive heat. High temperatures can cause some 3D-printed materials to soften, warp, or lose their shape. Don't leave your brackets in a hot vehicle or in direct sunlight for extended periods.

•Check for damage. Inspect your brackets for cracks, warping, loose magnets, or other signs of wear before each use. Discontinue use if a bracket is damaged or no longer holds securely.

•Keep magnets clean. Remove dirt, debris, and moisture from the magnets and their contact surfaces so they can attach properly.

Our brackets are designed to make setting up your games easy, but they're not indestructible. Handle them with care, store them somewhere dry and temperature-stable, and check that everything is secure before shooting.

A LITTLE UPKEEP GOES A LONG WAY

Rain, snow, humidity, and prolonged outdoor storage can all speed up rust. Keeping your gear dry and protected between range sessions is one of the easiest ways to help it last.

Steel is steel, and some surface rust may eventually happen. Regular cleaning, prompt drying, and paint touch-ups can help keep your Slug Butter gear ready for the next round.

Take care of your gear, look out for your shooting buddies, and go shoot
